Madrid vs national filing: how to choose
Each path fits different cases; the wrong choice costs you in budget or flexibility.
Filing trademarks in multiple countries, the common choice is a Madrid international registration versus national filings one by one. Each has trade-offs.
Madrid covers many countries in one application with central management and lower cost, but is tied to the base registration (central attack), and some countries still need local examination and agents. National filings are more flexible and robust but cost and manage more.
The pragmatic approach is to combine by number of countries, stability needs, and budget: national for core markets, Madrid for the periphery.
