Brand & Licensing
Three must-have terms in brand licensing
Scope, quality control, and termination — the three things a license must spell out.
When licensing your brand to distributors, platforms, or partners, what goes wrong is rarely whether to license but unclear license terms. Three terms matter most.
First, scope: territory, categories, term, and exclusivity. Second, quality control: standards and inspection rights over the product and how the mark is used. Third, termination: when the license can be revoked and what happens after.
Without these three, brand assets get diluted or lost across licensing and distribution. Spelling them out is the precondition for a governable brand.
